Usage notes
In older usage macedoni was the term for a Macedonian person and macedònic was the term for the adjective and the Macedonian language. In modern usage the two terms are generally considered synonymous in all senses, although some retain the traditional distinction. The modern tendency is in part caused by the fact that most such words in Catalan do triple duty as adjective, common noun, and proper noun, and is in part due to the relatively recent recognition of Macedonian as a language distinct from Bulgarian in the 20th century.
