mazăre
Romanian
Etymology
Uncertain. Perhaps a substratum word from a Dacian *mādzula, from Proto-Indo-European *meh₂ǵʰ-ulo ('a small bean'). Compare Aromanian madzãri; see also the related Albanian modhull. Alternatively, the Romanian may be derived from the Albanian word, perhaps an early borrowing that underwent several sound shifts.
