From Old Spanish emielgo, emelgo, from Vulgar Latin *gemellicus, from Latin gemellus, diminutive of geminus (“twin”). Compare Asturian xemelgu, ximielgu, Galician xemelgo, Logudorese Sardinian ameddiga[1].
