From Middle Dutch misdaet, from Old Dutch *misdād (“misdeed”), from Proto-Germanic *missadēdiz < *missa- (“mis-”) + *dēdiz (“deed, act”). Equivalent to mis- + daad. Cognate with Old Saxon misdād (“misdeed”), German Missetat, West Frisian misdied, English misdeed, Danish misdåd. More at misdeed.
