mizë
Albanian
Alternative forms
- myzë
Etymology
From Old Albanian miize, enlarged with -zë, from Proto-Albanian *mūjā, from Proto-Indo-European *muH- (compare English midge), variant of *mus- (compare Ancient Greek μυι̃α (muĩa), Serbo-Croatian muva). A comparison with Old High German mīza (“gnat”), Old English mite (“mite”), Latin minor (“small”) is also possible.
