mjerë
Albanian
Etymology
Demiraj claims descent from Proto-Albanian *m(i)ier-. Cognate to Ancient Greek μιερός (mierós), μιαρός (miarós, “polluted, defiled”).[1] However, Orel instead states that it is a borrowing from Latin miser.[2]
