murska

Finnish

Etymology

< murskata (to crush)

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈmurskɑ/, [ˈmurs̠kɑ]
  • Hyphenation: murs‧ka

Noun

murska

  1. (usually with modifier) crushed material
    tiilimurskacrushed brick
    jäämurskacrushed ice

Usage notes

  • In principle, murske is the product of crushing something on purpose and murska is a by-product or something that occurs naturally. The usage is not completely logical, though. E.g. "crushed ice" is usually called jäämurska even when produced on purpose for drinks etc.
