Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Albanian *engellā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂engʷʰ-, compare Ancient Greek ἔγχελυς (énkhelus, “eel”), Latin anguilla (“eel”), Proto-Slavic *ǫgorjь (“eel”), Old High German angar (“mealworm, larva, grub”). A borrowing from Latin anguilla has also been proposed.[1]
