Etymology
Blend of pal (“a close friend”) + alimony (“support payment from one former spouse to another after a divorce”).
Coined 1977 by celebrity divorce lawyer Marvin Mitchelson in suit of his client Michelle Triola Marvin against the actor Lee Marvin.[1]
