Finnish
Etymology
Cognate to Ingrian patsas (“pylon, bee nest”), Karelian patšas (“a supporting vertical piece of wood, pylon ...”), Ludian patšas (“id.”), Estonian patsas (“a column supporting an outer corner of an oven, backside of a wood-burning stove (dialectal)'”), Veps patsaz (“id.”). Related to Veps pacaz, maybe to Northern Sami baʒʒe (“grave monument, pylon, a heavy object difficult to move, support”), and Inari Sami pääcis (“statue, pylon”). Possibly from *bandsaz.[1]
