1. (psychiatry) Exhibiting one of the four subtypes of avoidant personality disorder as defined by the american psychiatrist Theodore Millon. Includes features of dependent personality disorder

• These subtypes are not recognized by the DSM-5 or ICD-10.
• Any individual with avoidant personality disorder may exhibit either one of the four somewhat different subtypes (Note that Millon believes it is rare for a personality with one pure variant, but rather a mixture of one major variant with one or more secondary variants):

• conflicted avoidant
• hypersensitive avoidant
• self-deserting avoidant
