Etymology
From ponzoñar, from Vulgar Latin *pōntiōnāre (“to poison”), alteration of Latin pōtiōnāre, present active infinitive of pōtiōnō, from pōtio. Or alternatively from a Vulgar Latin *potionea, from pōtio, pōtione-. Compare Portuguese peçonha, cf. also French poison.
