From Proto-Mon-Khmer *(c)raik, a variant of Proto-Mon-Khmer *craak; cognate with Muong réch, Khmer ជ្រែក (crɛɛk, “to part”), which from the first term, and ច្រាក (craak, “to divide up”), from the second.
