rakas
Finnish
(index ra)
Etymology
The traditional etymology Proto-Finno-Ugric *rakka (“near; to approach”) and its comparison to Hungarian rokon (“relative”) is now considered improbable due to missing cognates in closer languages. According to recent research it is considered a borrowing from Proto-Germanic *frakaz (“greedy, lustful”).
