From the original form renyó (following assimilation of the -e-), from Old Occitan [Term?] (compare Occitan renhon, ronhon), from Vulgar Latin *rēniōnem, accusative of *rēniō (compare French rognon, Spanish riñón, Italian rognone), from Latin rēn, from Proto-Italic *hrēn, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰren- (“an internal part of the body”).
