From Proto-Albanian *iš-gabā, from Proto-Indo-European *kobuǵos (compare English hawk, Latin capys (“bird of prey”), Russian ко́бец (kóbec, “falcon”) and dialectal Romanian scaba (“white-tailed eagle, sea eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla)”).
