sterpu

Etymology
Possibly ultimately from Byzantine Greek στέριφος (stérifos). Alternatively, it may be derived from a Vulgar Latin root *exstirpus or *extirpus. Compare Daco-Romanian sterp. Compare Albanian shterp, shterpë, probably from the same source, and Venetian sterpa, Friulian sterpe.
