strungă
Romanian
Etymology
Uncertain. Possibly a substratum word, perhaps from a Dacian *strunga; compare Albanian shtrungë. Alternatively, derived from the Albanian term (an early form of it before the phonetic change from an initial 's' to 'sh'), or related to a Thracian root *struma ("running, flowing"), or related to or derived from strung (“lathe”). Compare Aromanian strungã. [1]
Pronunciation
