Etymology
Borrowed either from Proto-Germanic *sukkaz (“sock”) or from Proto-Norse; cognates include English sock, Ingrian sukka, Karelian sukka, Ludian suk, Estonian sukk, Livonian sukā, Votic sukka and Swedish socka. Ultimately from Latin soccus.[1]
