Etymology
From a Vulgar Latin root *tabō, *tabōnem, from Latin tabānus. Alternatively from the classical Latin form through alteration of an older Romanian intermediate form *tăân / *tăîn; compare similar development in înăuntru[1]. Cognate with Aromanian tãun, French taon.
