From Proto-Finnic *tahko, from Proto-Finno-Permic *taškɜ. Related to Estonian tahk, Ingrian tahko, Karelian tahko, Livonian tǭ’gõz, Veps tahk, Votic tahko, Komi-Zyrian [script needed] (tyš), Udmurt [script needed] (tyš) and Eastern Mari [script needed] (toš).
