Probably from Gothic *𐌸𐌰𐌷𐍃𐌿𐌺𐍃 (*þahsuks), diminutive of *𐌸𐌰𐌷𐍃𐌿𐍃 (*þahsus), from Proto-Germanic *þahsuz, from Proto-Indo-European *teḱs-, *teḱ- (“to weave, braid, add, establish, construct”). Cognate with Portuguese texugo and dialectal Spanish tasugo.[1]
