From Proto-Finno-Ugric *ura, from Proto-Uralic *urɜ (“man, male”). Cognate with Hungarian úr (“Mr, lord; man, husband, prince”) (whence possibly ország (“land, realm, state”)), Lule Sami årēs and Northern Sami vâres.
