velvoiteoikeus
Finnish
Etymology
From velvoite (“obligation”) + oikeus (“law (system of formal statutes and informal normative principles)”).
Noun
velvoiteoikeus
- (law) law of obligations, civil law (area of private law under civil-law legal systems concerning the rights and duties arising between natural persons and non-governmental legal persons)
Usage notes
- In contemporary Finnish jurisprudence, velvoiteoikeus means more exactly the area of law concerning obligational relations between private persons (natural persons and non-governmental legal persons). In earlier Finnish jurisprudence, the area of law concerning those relations was referred to as siviilioikeus.
