From Middle English venereā̆l, venereā̆lle (“of or relating to sexual intercourse”), from Latin venereus, venerius (“of or relating to sexual love”),[1] from Venus (“Roman goddess of love”),[2] from Proto-Indo-European *wenh₁- (“to love”).
