Pronunciation

Verb

yêu (𢞅, )

  1. to love romantically
  2. (archaic or literary) to love non-romantically
    • 1697, Đại Việt sử ký toàn thư (Nội các quan bản version):

Nguyễn Dữ, the subordinate that the king favoured/beloved by the king, declared that he had a way to stop the thunder.

Usage notes

  • yêu only means "to love romantically". However, it should not be surprising that one can easily find that it also means "to love non-romantically" in awkward translations from other languages.
