From Middle Persian yšt' (yašt, prayer, worship), probably from Avestan 𐬫𐬀𐬱𐬙𐬀 (yašta, honored), from 𐬫𐬀𐬰 (yaz, to worship, honor), from Proto-Indo-European *yeh₂ǵ-[1] or *Hyaǵ-[2].
