The 1950s witnessed the explosion of consumer goods economy. By the end of the 1950s, 87% of all American families owned at least one T.V., 75% owned cars, and 60% owned their homes. The image of prosperous white middle class family in their suburban home symbolized the popular narrative of economic stability and traditional family values.
