README.txt  for Core Knowledge RACHEL server module

This module provides the downloadable learning materials for the Core Knowledge (coreknowldge.org). These materials are individual PDF files that are published under Creative Commons.

At the time of download, the great majority of the material are for lower grade (Pre-K- grade 3) languages arts. At this time there are no Grades 6-8 materials available and the offerings for Science and History and Geography are limited. Within grade level materials, some units are not available. The Core Knowledge web site should be checked in the future to see whether additional affoerings are available.

The materials seem to be of good quality. They generally have a teachers' addition, a text and supporting materials. They are focused on a US-based curriculum. Some of these US based materials are probably not of interest to learners outside the US.

The module has a "home" page (CoreKnowledge.html) that provides an introduction to the module and links to the 3 topics/disciplnes,Language Arts, Science, and History and Geography page (CoreKnowledgeLAv2.html, CoreKnowledgeSC.html, and CoreKnowledgeHG.html ). It also has links to grade level materials,(Pre-k - Grade5 (CoreKnowledgePK.html, CoreKnowledgeKG.html, CoreKnowledgeG1.html,CoreKnowledgeG2.html, CoreKnowledgeG3.html, CoreKnowledgeG4.html, CoreKnowledgeG5.html).

THe learning content PDFs are in the "Content" folder and have names denoting subject and grade. For example "G1_U2" indicates Grade 1 Unit 2. THe grade and unit identifiers are usually followed by a topic string. There are naming variations. Some files begin with CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) or CKHG (Core Knowledge History and Geography). Name will indicate with the file is a teacher's guide (TG) or a student reader (SR or RDR), Assessment and Remediation Guide (ARG), work book (WB), or other type of learning material. Some names have versioning info, flip book (FB), image cards (IC), or other naming identifier.
