Lesson 1: Getting Started with Etsy

Getting started with Etsy

Etsy is an online marketplace where people can buy and sell unique goods. Unlike most online stores, Etsy focuses on items that are handmade rather than manufactured. This means every item is completely unique and that you're supporting creators and their businesses directly.

If you enjoy making crafts, art, or jewelry, Etsy also offers a way to sell your work without having to create your own website. For a small fee, you can list your handmade items for anyone around the world to purchase. Etsy's payment system automatically converts foreign currencies and places the money directly into your bank account.

Creating an Etsy account

Before getting started with buying or selling, you'll need to create your own Etsy account.

  1. Go to www.etsy.com and click the Register button in the top-right corner of the page.
  2. A registration window will appear. You can either sign up with Facebook or Google, or complete the form and click Register.

  3. You'll receive an email from Etsy in order to confirm your registration. Open the email and click Confirm Account.
  4. Etsy will open in a new tab, showing that you've confirmed your account. Sign in with your login information, and your account will be ready to use.

In our next lesson, we'll go over the basics of searching for and buying items.
