Definition: A post-zygotic event is a genetic change that occurs after the egg and sperm combine to form an embryo. Neither the egg nor the sperm have the same genetic change that the new embryo has. If the embryo has at least two cells when the post-zygotic event occurs, then some of the cells of the body will have the genetic condition while others will not. This is known as mosaicism.
