8. The Annunciation

  1. The promise of salvation

       After the sin of Adam and Eve, God still love the men, and He wants to solve that situation. He promises humanity can be saved from sin, recovering the gift of grace: men returned to be the sons of God and heirs of the Heaven.

       To avoid men could forget the promise made by God, He continue reminding it to Abraham, Moses, Jacob, David and to the prophets. Isaiah announced the birth of Christ five hundred years before it would happened, and that it would be from a virgin: “Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel."(God is with us)". (Is. 7.14). The prophet Micah foretold the Savior would be born in Bethlehem.

  2. The Annunciation

      After many years, God keep his promise. He sent the angel Gabriel to spoke with Virgin Mary, who lived in Nazareth. He announced that she has been chosen to be the mother of God. He said: ‘Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you.” (Lc 1, 28).

       Mary was frightened, but the angel calmed her: ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. (Lc 1, 30-31)

       Then Mary said, ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.’ Then the angel departed from her. (Lc 1, 38)

       By the Holy Spirit the Virgin conceived the Son of God, who bore nine months later in a manger of Bethlehem.

       In that way the second member of the Holy Trinity became a man, to reddem humankind from sin and give us an example of life.
