11. Public life of Jesus

  1. Public life of Jesus

During the three years Jesus revealed Himself as Son of God a lot of things happened, but we can highlight the baptism at the Jordan river, the wedding at Cana, the preaching, the transfiguration and the Eucharist.

Jesus went to Jordan river to be baptized by John. After his baptism, Jesus saw how the Holy Spirit, in the shape of a dove, descended upon him. Then the voice of the Father was heard. He said “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." (Mt 17, 5). This is the manifestation of the three members of the Holy Trinity.

His first miracle was in Cana of Galilee. They were in a wedding and ran out of wine early. Mary turned to Jesus and said “They have no more wine” He told the servants to fill six stone jars with water and transformed then the water into the best wine. With this miracle He manifest His glory and his disciples started to believe in him. After that He did a lot of miracles: he healed blinds and mutes, resurrected the dead, healed leprous, exorcize demons and forgive sins. Only He could do all these miracles, because God is almighty.

Jesus preached about the Gospel or Good News: God is my Father and also yours, and you are my brothers. He explained the Beatitudes, where the poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful and the peacemakers are praised. He preached with parables, using examples of ordinary life.

  2. The transfiguration and the Eucharist

“Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white.”

Then Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellingshere, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’(Mt 17,4)While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved;with him I am well pleased; listen to him!’ (Mt 17,5)

That was done by Jesus to fortify the faith of the Apostles before the Passion.

During the Passover Jesus did the Last Supper with his apostles. He took a towel, put water in a deep dish and started to washed the feet. Here Jesus was given us an example of how we must help and serve each other.

Later He introduced the Eucharist. While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he said: “This is my blood of the* covenant, which is poured out for many.” (Mc 14, 22-24).
