Tracheal transection is a break or cut through the trachea. Most people die before they reach the hospital.[1]

Initial management involves placing an endotracheal tube into the trachea via the neck.[1] This may be done by making a cut across the neck, though sometimes a median sternotomy is needed.[1] Surgical repair may then performed.[1]
