1877 Lower Hunter colonial by-election
A by-election was held for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly electorate of Lower Hunter on 26 November 1877 because Archibald Jacob was appointed Secretary for Mines in the fourth Robertson ministry.[1] Jacob had been unopposed at the election in October 1877,[2] and ministerial by-elections were usually uncontested.

Notes
- Ordinarily the writ for a by-election would be issued by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, however Jacob was appointed before Parliament convened and the writ was issued by the Governor.
