Format
The competition format continued on from the previous season, with the fixture list being the only significant change. Twelve teams play in a round-robin format, with seven matches at home and seven away. The second round, called "Super Round", will be played at AAMI Park, Melbourne. Each team will also have one bye. Eleven fixtures are to be regular round-robin matches, with three derby/rivalry matches and one bye, making a total of fifteen rounds.[3]
Four points are distributed to any team that wins a match, with two for a draw and a loss giving zero. A singular bonus point will be awarded to any team that scored three or more tries than the opponent and/or losing to an opponent by seven points or less.[4]
At the conclusion of the fifteenth round, the teams that have accumulated the most table points, situated between first place and eighth place will play advance to the finals series, with the first-placed team playing the eighth-placed team, the second-placed team playing the seventh-placed team, etc. The higher ranked team has home advantage.[4]
