History

In order to facilitate the redeployment of troops on the front lines in Luhansk Oblast and defense against the Ukrainian counteroffensive in southern Ukraine, the establishment of 25th Combined Arms Army was started from May 2023. The unit is made up of officers and conscripts from Buryatia and Irkutsk.[2][3] On 31 August 2023, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov said that the Russian military has sent personnel from the newly formed and likely under-strength 25th Combined Arms Army to Kupyansk to replace units from the 41st Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District.[4][5] It was reported at the end of September that the 25th CAA was fully staffed with around 17,000 personnel and had been placed at the war front near Kreminna in the Luhansk region of Ukraine.[6]
