Acme (band)

Acme (アクメ, stylized as ACME) is a Japanese visual kei rock band active since 2017, with the concept of "a delinquent boy in an imaginary world".[2] Formed by Chisa, Shogo, Rikito and Hal, they have toured several times across United States, being the only visual kei band to complete a full US tour in 2021.[3]

The band was formed in Tokyo in 2017 by former DIV band members Chisa and Shogo.[1] Shortly before, they played in a temporary band called Chisa & Shogo with the other two future members of Acme, Rikito and Hal.[5] Acme released their debut mini album Senkou on 2 August, limited to 2000 copies, accompanied by a national tour .[2] On 23 November, bassist Rikito had to pause activities due to health problems.[6] On 7 March, with three members, the group released the single "Rotten Orange".[7] Rikito returned in April.[8] In August 2018 they released their first full-length album Zesho Oka, limited to 1000 copies.[9]

Acme held its first show in United States in 2019, performing at Anime Milwaukee convention in 15 to 17 February in Wisconsin. However, Chisa had already visited the country to be a model at Anime Expo in Los Angeles.[10] After announcing the single "Mononoke Requiem", they returned in the same year for A-Kon in Dallas from 27 to 30 June and held a show in California in July.[11][12] Acme's first full tour in United States took place with the band Red Handed Denial in January 2020.[13] At the end of the year, they changed their name from Acme (アクメ) in katakana to ACME, targeting an international audience.[14]

In January 2021 they released the digital single "Enchanted", with a music video filmed in Hollywood during their US tour. Furthermore, Chisa and Hal were invited to Gekirock portal's DJ event, held on 8 January in Shibuya.[15] On 29 March, the song "Come Back to You" was released, produced by Seann Bowe and recording engineer Daihei Yamanaka. It was Acme's first work with a foreign producer[16][14] and the first visual kei music video to feature a black woman, Katie Sachiko Scott.[17] At the end of the year they returned to United States for four shows.[18]

Another North American tour was announced in 2022, this time featuring the band's first show in Canada.[19] The single "Heaven's Door" was released on 2 May.[3] Their third studio album, Resisted Temptation, was released digitally on 23 November. Physical copies are only available at concerts, starting with the tour 2022 In Japan, which started on the 19th.[20] In February 2023 they revealed a new cybernetic visual for the release of the single "Sennou" on 14 February.[21]
