The length of the station is 3.1 km . For 23 years until 2002, until the Azi Aslanov station was opened, it was the terminus of the red line of the metro.

It was built under the supervision of architects L. Kochubey and L. Avramenko. The floor of the station is covered with slabs of gray granite. Two white marble strips are laid out in the middle of it. The columns that support the arches of the structure resemble minarets. The pillars, as well as the floor, are lined with granite and marble slabs. The ceiling of the Akhmetly station is made of concrete beams covered with white enamel.[2][3]
