Arbejderen

Arbejderen (Danish: Worker), also known as Dagbladet Arbejderen (Danish: Daily Worker), is an online newspaper which is official media outlet of the Denmark's Communist Party.[1] It was a print daily newspaper between 1982 and 2019.

History and profile

Arbejderen was started as an official organ of the Communist Association Marxist-Leninists, a break away group from the Communist Party, in 1982.[2][3] Its first issue appeared on 1 September that year.[4] The paper is headquartered in Copenhagen.[2] It replaced Gnisten, another publication of the party.[5] The paper was later renamed as Dagbladet Arbejderen.[5] In 2007 it began to be published from Tuesday to Saturday by the Communist Party.[2][3] In 2009 its circulation was approximately 1500 copies.[6] Birthe Sørensen was the editor-in-chief of Arbejderen.[7] She was replaced by Anders Sørensen in April 2019 when she resigned from the post after 19 years.[8] The paper expresses the policies of the Communist Party in its editorials and articles.[3]

From 1 May 2019 the print edition of Arbejderen ceased publication, and it became an online-only periodical.[8]
