Barter 16

Barter 16 is the scrapped mixtape by American rapper Lil Uzi Vert. It was scheduled to be released sometime in 2023, through Atlantic Records and Generation Now.[1] It would have served as a follow-up to their third studio album Pink Tape (2023). The album pays homage to fellow American rapper Young Thug's debut mixtape, Barter 6 (2015), which in turn was inspired by American rapper Lil Wayne's Tha Carter series. The title of the mixtape is also a play on words, regarding Uzi's hometown street number, North 16 Street, in Philadelphia.[2][3]

Background

The mixtape was first teased following the release of Pink Tape after Uzi had promised that if the project went number 1 on the Billboard 200, this would be released next.[4][5]

On August 12, 2023, Uzi put up the following message on their Instagram story:

GET @lil1dte to 100k followers imma drop the album next week i promise

On August 16, 2023, Uzi teased the artwork cover for the album on Instagram, which appears similar to the artwork of Young Thug's debut commercial mixtape, Barter 6.[6] On August 19, 2023, multiple songs from Barter 16 were leaked on the internet, bringing speculation that the mixtape may not be released.[7]

Aesthetic and inspiration

The mixtape's theme and cover art is inspired by Young Thug's debut mixtape, Barter 6.
