Battle

On January 6th, 2001, a faction of LAPMB insurgents took control of Gornja Šušaja.[7] They were well received by the local Albanian population, and some residents even joined their ranks.[7] On January 19th, another group of LAPMB insurgents from Gornja Šušaja, led by Bardhyl Osmani, conducted a raid on Yugoslav army positions near Crnotince.[7][8] The following day, January 20th, 2001, a sizable Yugoslav Army, comprising tanks, armored vehicles, and special forces, surrounded Gornja Šušaja, preparing to launch an attack on the LAPMB stronghold. On January 24th, Yugoslav forces initiated an assault on the village from three directions. The battle persisted for four days until Yugoslav forces eventually were forced to withdraw.[7][8]

Throughout the battle, 2-3 LAPMB insurgents were wounded, whereas 4 Yugoslav soldiers were wounded, one of which later died due to his injuries.[4][9][7][3][10][11] The LAPMB claimed to have killed 3 Yugoslav soldiers during the engagement.[4]
