Bhagya Rekha

Bhagya Rekha (transl.Fortunes) is a 1957 Indian Telugu-language drama film, produced by Ponnaluri Brothers under the Ponnaluri Brothers Pvt. Ltd. banner and directed by B. N. Reddy. It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Jamuna and music composed by Pendyala Nageswara Rao.[1] The film was dubbed into Tamil as Veettukku Vandha Varalakshmi (1958).[2]

Plot

The film begins with a wise girl Lakshmi who lost her parents in childhood and is reared by her paternal uncle Narayana Rao. Jagadamba her shrew aunt, subject her to punishment. Narayana Rao couple has two children Kotaiah a soft-hearted who dotes on Lakshmi and Kathyayani a pampered naughty. Narayana Rao predicts that Lakshmi is going to get a rich alliance as per her horoscope. Meanwhile, Kotaiah quits and joins the army. Years roll by, and Jagadamba arranges a match for Katyayani, but they select Lakshmi when she is expelled. During that plight, she reaches Tirumala where she rescues a baby of a wealthy couple Nagabhushnam & Seetamma, and they shelter her when Lakshmi acquires the credence. Following, their son Ravi falls for her, and the elders also accept it. Anyhow, it begrudges Nagabhushnam's brother-in-law Jaganadham as he aspires to knit his daughter Parvati with Ravi. So, he ploys by bribing Jagadamba & her sly brother Sambaiah and forges Lakshmi's espousal in childhood which makes her exit. Besides, Kathyayani elopes with her beloved Pullaiah with the money. Parallelly, Kotaiah returns and divulges the ruse when Ravi collapses. Pulliah & Katyayani waste the amount when Lakshmi aids them to back up. Knowing the whereabouts of Lakshmi via them Kotaiah retrieves her. By that time, Ravi is terminally ill whom Lakshmi recoups with her idolization. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Ravi & Lakshmi.
