Bindaas (2008 film)

Bindaas (transl.Independent) is a Kannada language action comedy film directed by D. Rajendra Babu from a story written by Janardhan Maharshi, and produced by M.Chandrashekar. The film stars Puneeth Rajkumar, Hansika Motwani, Nassar, Suman and Komal. This is Hansika's only Kannada film.

Bindaas was released on 15 February 2008 and became a commercial success at the box office.[1] It was dubbed in Telugu as Pandugadu, in Hindi as Be Happy Bindaas, and in Bhojpuri as Baazi. It was also reported to have been dubbed in Malayalam.[2] The film was remade in Bhojpuri in 2012 as Hero making it the first Kannada movie to be remade in Bhojpuri.[3]

Plot

Shiva is a former pickpocketeer in Bangalore, who gets caught selling black tickets and creating a disturbance at a theatre. He meets ACP Vikram Rathod. who ask him to infiltrate a crime boss named Saleem Bhai's gang as a police informer. Shiva joins Saleem Bhai's trusted man D and his gang, where he eliminates Saleem Bhai's gang under Vikram Rathod's orders. During a shootout, Shiva's girlfriend Preeti mistakes Shiva as a gangster, where she breaksup with him. After capturing and bringing Saleem Bhai, Shiva is held at gunpoint by Vikram Rathod, who reveals that Preeti is his daughter and is enraged to learn about his relationship with Preethi. Due to political pressure to nab Saleem Bhai, Vikram Rathod makes Shiva as the informer while making Preeti believe that he is a gangster. Shiva escapes with Saleem Bhai and kidnaps Preeti, who reveals her father's treachery. D frees Saleem Bhai, leading to a shootout where Shiva kills D and Saleem Bhai. Vikram Rathod tries to shoot Shiva, but is stopped by Preeti, who makes her father realize his mistakes and reunites with Shiva.

Gurukiran composed the film score and the soundtrack, while the lyrics were penned by Kaviraj and V. Nagendra Prasad. The soundtrack album consists of five tracks.[4] It was released on 2 January 2008 in Bangalore.[5] "Thara Thara Onthara" samples the post-chorus of the song "My Number One".
