Biography

The group was formed in 2012 in the North Rhine Westphalian city of Essen and consisted of frontman Nico Schiesewitz, guitarist Joschka Basteck, as well as bassist Jan Euler and drummer Markus Harazim. Basteck and Harazim previously played together in the rock band Emmy Shot a Unicorn, which released an EP during their playing days.

On April 19, 2014, the debut album Shorelines was released, which the group financed out of their own pocket and released without a record company. In the meantime, Breathe Atlantis were signed to Redfield Records and released their second album Futurestories through the label in the summer of 2016.[1] The album was produced by producer Dan Korneff, and mastered and mixed in New York City.[2]

In 2017 the quartet played two tours with Any Given Day, To the Rats and Wolves, and Vita in Germany and Switzerland.[3] The group had previously played various concerts at national level.[4] The group also supported Memphis May Fire, Attila, Bury Tomorrow, Betraying the Martyrs, The Word Alive, Caliban, Hands Like Houses, Slave and Callejon.

Together with Our Mirage, Breathe Atlantis were the support act for the European tour of the Swedish band Imminence, which had taken place between December 5th and 22nd, 2018 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, France and in the Netherlands.[5][6] In September 2018 it was announced that Breathe Atlantis switched over to Arising Empire and would release their third album Soulmade via the record label in early 2019.[7]

On July 18, 2023, the band announced their breakup.

Style

When it came to their music, Breathe Atlantis would be considered alternative rock. Compared to the debut album, which turned out to be quite metal-heavy, the group relies on clean vocals, catchy hooks, and melodic guitar playing on the second album. The music is comparable to Slave and The Color Morale.[8] The Used and My Chemical Romance are also mentioned as influences for their band.[9]
