History
Camelot was founded on April 4, 1994, by Shugo Takahashi, the brother of producer Hiroyuki Takahashi, and started out by working with Sonic! Software Planning on later installments of the Shining series, beginning with Shining Wisdom.
Camelot's first solo-developed title, Beyond the Beyond, was released in 1995 on PlayStation, followed in 1997 by Everybody's Golf (also on PlayStation).
In late 1998, Camelot and codeveloper Sonic were left in jeopardy with the third and final scenario of their Sega Saturn title, Shining Force III, as Sega began focusing its resources on the Dreamcast. Though the scenario was released, Sonic was acquired from Sega and merged into Camelot. Since then, Camelot has worked mostly for Nintendo.[3]
The studio has developed many Mario sports games, including Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis,[3] as well as the Golden Sun series of role-playing games.[3]
The creation of the Mario character Waluigi can be attributed to Camelot, after Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto consulted with them to create a "Wario-like" counterpart for Luigi during the development of Mario Tennis.
