Amateur career

Legumina attended Basha High School in Gilbert, Arizona. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 25th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, but did not sign and attended Gonzaga University, where he played college baseball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He was then drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 35th round of the 2018 MLB draft, but again did not sign and returned to Gonzaga.

Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins selected Legumina in the eighth round, with the 239th overall selection, of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft, and he signed with the Twins.[1] Legumina did not play in a game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]

Legumina spent his first professional season with the Single-A Fort Myers Mighty Mussels and High-A Cedar Rapids Kernels, posting a cumulative 4–2 record and 3.28 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 49+13 innings pitched across 15 games (9 starts). In 2022, he split the year between Cedar Rapids and the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge, pitching in 33 games (starting 16) and registering a 2–6 record and 4.80 ERA with 92 strikeouts and three saves in 86+13 innings pitched.[3]

On November 15, 2022, the Twins added Legumina to their 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.[4]

Cincinnati Reds

On November 18, 2022, the Twins traded Legumina to the Cincinnati Reds for Kyle Farmer.[5] Legumina was optioned to the Triple-A Louisville Bats to begin the 2023 season.[6] He recorded a 1.59 ERA with five strikeouts in 5+23 innings pitched to begin the year.

On April 15, 2023, the Reds promoted Legumina to the major leagues for the first time.[7]
