Chanasma
Chanasma is a small town and a municipality in Chanasma Taluka of Patan district in the state of Gujarat, India.

Etymology
The Town is named after the Chahamanas Dynasty which ruled here for several centuries. There is also a temple of Vadechi Mata Mandir "vairutta devi", a devi or goddess worshipped by this clan. The last king of this Dynasty was Prthviraj Chauhan. They were the most prominent ruling family of the Chahamanas (Chauhan) Rajput clan. This Dynasty had ruled from 6th century to 12th century until his last king Shri Prithviraj Chauhan. This Dynasty belongs to the Solar dynasty or the Ikshvaku Dynasty. However, people of this dynasty mainly the Jains have migrated in search of wealth and progress.
This town falls in Patan district. Patan was ruled by powerful kings like King Bhimdev, Siddhraj Jaisinh, Kumarpal. Udan, Munjal Mehta, Tejpal – Vastupal were secretaries to Kings in different era of Chaulukya kingdom. Jain Scholars like Hemchandrachrya, Shanti Suri and Shripal had provided guidance to the kingdom.
In 1299, the Delhi Sultanate ruler Alauddin Khalji sent an army to ransack the Gujarat region of India, which was ruled by the Vaghela king Karna. The Delhi forces plundered several major cities of Gujarat, including Anahilavada (Patan), Khambhat, Surat and Somnath.

Geography
Chanasma is located at 23.72°N 72.12°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 61 metres (200 feet).
Demographics
At the 2001 India census,[2] Chanasma had a population of 15,819. Males constituted 52% of the population and females 48%. Chanasma had an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 81% and female literacy of 67%. 10% of the population was under 6 years of age.
Places of interest
The Bhateva Parshwanath Jain temple was built in first half of 19th century at the cost of ₹7 lakh (equivalent to ₹15 crore or US$1.9 million in 2023). The temple is built with stone and has profusely carved images and figures including that of 24 Tirthankaras. The image of chief deity is made of sand and cow-dung. The floor is covered with marble.[3]
There are temples of Ramji Mandir, Pimpaleshwar Mahadev, Nilkanth Mahadev and Verai Mata. A dargah of Navagaja Pir is located near the town.[3]

Amenities
The town has a post office, banks, market yards as well as manufacturing and industrial units. It also has a Chanasma Nagrik Co-operative Bank. It also has hospitals, a veterinary hospital and an artificial insemination centre.[3]
