In 1966, the group changed their name to The American Breed. The American Breed has a top five hit in 1968 with Bend Me, Shape Me.[2] The group disbanded in 1970.

Chuck has since worked for numerous different advertising agencies.[3] Colbert continues to work as a studio vocalist, ranging from work with jazz musician Ahmad Jamal's album “Ahmad Jamal ’73” and Tyrone Davis 1979 single “In the Mood”.[3] Colbert served as the President of the Chicago chapter of NARAS (National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences) and presided on the national board of directors for 10 years.[3]

In 1986, Colbert reunited with the American Breed to record another album. In 1990, Colbert starting the Charles Colbert Communications Company.[3][4] During his career, Colbert has worked with, and/or produced, a virtual who's who of artists, including Harry Belafonte, Ahmad Jamal, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Kurtis Blow, and Oscar Brown.[1]
