Clive Deamer

Clive Deamer (born February 1961 in Bath, Somerset, United Kingdom)[1] is an English drummer and percussionist who has been the drummer for the jazz band Get the Blessing since 2000.[2] He has also worked with acts including Radiohead, Portishead, Jeff Beck, Alison Moyet, Siouxsie Sioux, Roni Size, Hawkwind, Robert Plant and Reprazent.

Biography

Deamer was drummer of Hawkwind between 1983 and 1985, band leader Dave Brock later said that Deamer was "too professional" for the band, his replacement was Danny Thompson Jr. (son for the double bassist).[3] He was the drummer of the rhythm and blues revival group Big Town Playboys and appeared on albums including Crazy Legs (1993) with Jeff Beck.[4]

Deamer has been drummer for Portishead since 1994,[5] playing on Dummy (1994), Portishead (1997) and Roseland NYC Live (1998) and Third (2008) alongside his Get the Blessing bandmate Jim Barr.[6] In 1997, he appeared on the album New Forms by Roni Size & Reprazent,[7] which won the Mercury Music Prize.[8]

In 2000, Deamer formed Get the Blessing with Jim Barr (bass), Jake McMurchie (saxophone) and Pete Judge (trumpet), in Bristol.[2] from 2001 to 2007 he was a member of Robert Plant's backing band. He first met Plant and Plant's daughter's wedding in 1991 when he was playing with Big Town Playboys.[9] He appeared on Plant's albums Dreamland (2002) and Mighty ReArranger (2005).

Around the same time, Deamer started working with French singer Damien Saez for the albums God Blesse / Katagena (2002),[10] Debbie (2004)[11] and Paris (2008),[12] in addition to participating in Saez's Yellow Tricycle project (where he sings in English) for the album To Lovers Prayer (2009).[13] In 2007 he recorded with Siouxsie Sioux on her album Mantaray.[14]

Since 2011, Deamer has toured with Radiohead as the second drummer.[15][16][17] He played additional drums on their 2016 album A Moon Shaped Pool [18] and appeared on their 2011 double single "The Daily Mail" and "Staircase".[19] Describing their 2012 tour for The King of Limbs, the Radiohead drummer, Philip Selway, said: "One [of us] played in the traditional way, the other almost mimicked a drum machine. It was push-and-pull, like kids at play, really interesting."[20] In 2014, Deamer collaborated with Jonny and Colin Greenwood from Radiohead on the track "Under The Paving-Stones, the Beach!", on the soundtrack of the film Inherent Vice.[21]
